This home is a two-story colonial builder’s home, with entablatures over doors and windows, shutter treatment at each window, and steep return caps on the gable returns. The couple needs additional space to entertain guests, so requested a small addition at the back of the house to create an additional dining banquet space.
We provided this option and it became clear that the small addition that the owner requested would disrupt an existing glazed “bright cover” patio cover. This expense would make the addition hardly worth attempting. Thereafter, and largely at our cost, we provided an addition design that would expand their dining room within the existing footprint, and afford them a living room in a more contemporary open space plan.
