This home was originally built in a luxurious neighborhood in Massillon, Ohio, and could likely accommodate a large family and their staff. By the late twentieth century its former glory was diminished, and it passed through a number of hands before it was purchased by its current owner.
For a home of this era, the arrangement of roof shapes was rather complex, with gables of varying heights intersecting with Dutch (clipped) gable form in the front. Other sheds are framed in, as are bay windows and an enclosed front porch.
The project we explored consisted of conversion of the home into four distinct units, a multi-family home. Our owner encouraged us to do so on a design shoestring, and without our usual engineering consultants. After a bare bones basic set was rejected by the local building department, we wisely walked away from the owner.
