All Saints Cemetery – Garden Crypts

Tholos-type crypt complex on an open space in a cemetery.

This is a funerary project, a conceptual study of a series of garden crypts on a large expansive site, near an existing mausoleum and several groves of trees, but otherwise rather empty.  The design is a blend of landscape and sculpture.  It is concentric so that individuals can move around and through it.  So the feeling is one of equality of all gravesites there are no ends and no corners.

The rotunda is at the center, and can wrap around a sculpture in the round or a fountain.   The urns are around the perimeter and screen the lower views to frame the sky and tree line, and to provide privacy to visitors.  The repetition of the urns will create a shadow effect.

The project was designed without a commission, but with the informal intent of a specific cemetery in Northeast Ohio, and a specific site therein.  It remains in this compilation until such time that a potential cemetery director decides to enlist us to bring it to full fruition.
