Carpenter Gothic Church

A color study for a church in Oakland's San Antonio neighborhood.

This neighborhood church was constructed in 1860 and moved by oxen to its present site in 1880. The style is Carpenter Gothic, and it was originally painted to imitate sandstone.

The colorful renditions depicted here were the culmination of a process to measure, evaluate, and recommend potential creative solutions for the structure. These drawings, as well as a narrative of the church history, were presented in a grant proposal to several prominent cultural organizations.
