Colonial Addition – Residence

Colonial home with new kitchen and expanded second story with three bedrooms.

This is a roughly 2000 square foot colonial revival home in a neighborhood off of Hilliard Boulevard in Rocky River. The home as it stands has three bedrooms, a den / study, and two- and one-half bathrooms. The family loves the home and their neighborhood, but is preparing for the future, ergo they desired a clever internal expansion and addition to make the most of their existing footprint.

The program included an attic transformation. The attic in this design is lifted and massaged, with the resultant emergence of three new bedroom spaces, each beneath its own dormer. Two dormers will face the front of the house, i.e., the west facing elevation. The east facing side of the attic will be lifted up en masse, effectively tilting up the slope of the roof to afford significantly more space for a master suite, replete with comfortable bedroom, bathroom, and clothes closets.

On the main floor, the simple galley kitchen was rather confined, so we broadened and expanded this space.  We also addressed a welcoming entry and mudroom.
