Modern Shed Style Addition

Shed style modernist home with a new gabled addition.

This project is a garage addition for a single-family home in College Station. The existing building is a modern shed, a style that proliferated in certain areas of the country from the 1960s through the 1970s. It likely sprang from someone with a fresh architectural degree from Texas A&M University.

The owner desired the removal of the existing shed roof and construction of a new second story upon the existing garage. We saw an opportunity to spring forth a new gable from the home, and in a rather seamless manner accommodate a new bedroom within the new volume. The intriguing aspect of the home is its fenestration, which creates abundant light within the room and serves to frame the views of the cul-de-sac.
