The owner had a two-story mid-century minimal traditional home in Fairview Park, white with green trim, and with a spacious backyard. He desired an addition that can maximize some of the long lot, while making the home a place of residence for both of his sisters. Once constructed, the sister who already lived in the home occupied the front, existing portion, while the sister who moved in occupied the new addition.
The addition blended harmoniously with the existing building, with minimal demolition, a simple straightforward floor plan solution, and a gable mass with a profile that complemented the existing home.
Referencing the curving bargeboard in the existing front entry, we brought in gothic revival windows in some of the gables and specified turned columns and balusters at the back porch. We utilized a consistent white and deep green color pallet to match the existing fabric.
